ADVENT RETREATS - PRAYING WITH THE O' ANTIPHONS

-
Saturday, December 6th or 13th from 9:30am – 3:00pm | Reservations are necessary. |Click to Register

This Retreat day will focus on praying with the deep meanings of the ancient, but still used O’ Antiphons. During the final days of Advent, the Church offers an ancient and timeless way of anticipating the celebration of Christmas: The O Antiphons.
These are special prayers that recall the whole of salvation history and anticipate the birth of Christ. The Antiphons sum up all the longing for our Savior. They recall the Old Testament waiting for the Messiah, but they also reflect our waiting for His Second Coming at the Parousia. Throughout Advent the readings and prayers have been focused on preparation for Christ's coming in history and in the future.
The O’ Antiphons are prayed in the Gospel Acclamation at Mass, and in the Magnificat Antiphon at Evening Prayer(Vespers). The “O” in these antiphons is vocative: from the Latin vocare, to call. Each individual text is a cry, an invocation, welling up from humanity's desire for God.
